Where to start part 1

The older I get the smaller the world gets! Thanks to social media and just life in general I am amazed with the way things happen or work out.

I am 68 years old. (I just had a birthday on Friday) I have been married for 42 years. This is my 2nd marriage. I have a total of 11 grandchildren (5 are my stepdaughters) I have 3 daughters. (2 I gave birth to). I have had many jobs mainly in a printing factory and 23 years as a daycare provider. I have always wanted to be a writer but never found the right time to start. So here I am trying my hand at storytelling with real stories. I will start with this year.

I lost my dad to cancer at the end of my junior year of high school. Because of his death at that time of my life I lost touch with my Aunt (dad’s sister) and my cousins on his side. I don’t remember much about the other few family members that I had met as a child so I decided to see if I could find any thru Ancestry.

Now remember at the time I was 67 years old and not computer savvy. I received an email that family members were found with DNA matches. So I go to their site and it named these two people as either half sisters or aunts and another as either a half brother or uncle. Now this was information I laughed at, what a scam was my first thought. Then as I read farther, to get more information i had to pay more money, 2nd thought yep definitely a scam. So I left the site.

The next day I have a voice mail from a guy that said he had gotten an alert from Ancestry that we were cousins. I called him back. Not sure I should have done that now.

Don grew up in the same small town that I did. We have friends in common and my parents and his were friends. We couldn’t find a family connection though. So since I didn’t want anything else to do with the ancestry stuff, I made Don a manager of my account so he could see my results. I probably shouldn’t have done that either.

Well to shorten this post, he found out that his uncle was my biological father. Mind you, I am old, my parents and anyone else that might know anything are now dead. I guess I have 2 half brothers and 2 half sisters. They live in towns close by.

I struggled with this information for months. Lots of questions and no way to get answers. I can’t believe my mother took this secret to the grave with her. My dad died in 1974, in 1993 my mother moved in with me and my family, she stayed until 2020 when she had a stroke.

to be continued.
